Over a period of 25 years Collectie Harms Rolde, owned by Grietinus Harms, has put together an extensive private art-collection. Initially the collection consisted of Dutch paintings, watercolours and sculptures from the 19th and 20th centuries, especially of painters who were inspired by 'Drentse' nature and culture. Of late the gallery is specializing in modern figurative painting. Noordelijke Realisten are strongly represented.

In 2005 the collection of Drs. Loek Brons from Amsterdam was taken over. The collection was updated by the purchase of paintings from the gallery De Groote Noord in Giethoorn. Recently paintings have been bought from the inter-war and post-war realists.

On 1 October 2006 the gallery opened a new branch. Here the collection of the 19th and early 20th centuries are on show, while the works of the modern figuratives painters are on permanent exhibit in the main building.

Every autumn there will be a special exhibition of the work of a single artist, sometimes in co-operation with the Drents Museum in Assen.

Collection Harms Rolde participates in the national art-fairs Realisme and the pAn in Amsterdam.
